Fresh Fridays: Yessss The Week Is Over

I was reviewing the posts that I have written and I noticed that a lot of them have been rather melancholy, which is probably a result of how I have been feeling lately. Anyhow, I have decided from this day on to reserve Friday posts for things that I have encountered throughout the week that I deem fresssssssshhhh. Yeah it’s great to be serious, methodical and analytical, but a huge part of my blog is about not letting the 9 to 5 rob you of your essence. So I have reserved Fridays just to exhibit some of the things that I think are cool. Please feel free to post your links of cool things you have encountered during the week, whatever they may be. Everyone’s essence is unique, but everyone must strive to keep it, especially in the midst of corporate servitude. I invite you to share your individuality with me…

Hot Interiors: A Modern Twist on a Classic Apt.

As I have said in previous posts, I love architecture and modern interior design.  I love seeing older buildings with a modern interior twist.  I feel like larger cities like NY and Chicago have a good rep for converting historical buildings into more modern residences while still keeping the exterior facade in tact.  One city that I feel is definitely getting looked at a lot heavier now, but has been slept on for years, is Washington, DC.  Aside from the fact that it is my hometown and I am partial with it, the District of Columbia has some architectural gems.  Yes its true, New York has the amazing Brownstones in areas like Brooklyn and Harlem, but people really sleep on DC.   One just need look in areas like Columbia Heights and Capitol Hill to see homes that were built in the early 1900s and earlier that have been gutted and given a modern twist.

Anyhow, I was recently reading an article on apartment therapy, when I saw an article on a building that was built in 1910.  Just so happens that my elementary school was directly behind this building.  I always new the building’s exterior was gorgeous but I really had no idea what was on the inside.  Since they are condos, the interiors of each unit depend on the individual style of its tenant.  This unit that was featured in apartment therapy is amazing. The only thing I am not really feeling is the dark blue disk on the ceiling, I definitely think that could have been done in a better color, if at all.

It takes vision to turn nothing into something

I feel like I have a general affinity for all things that are fresh. Architecture is really one of my first loves, even though I can’t draw. One thing I love about Kanye West’s blog is that he posts pics of the crazy homes, but they are always newly built. I love seeing an amazing house that someone with vision transformed from horrible to amazing….
